Duncan Print reduces waste to landfill by 70% in less than two years!

waste

The Duncan Print Group has hit our initial target to reduce the solid waste generated by more than 70% as part of our on-going committment to minimise our environmental impact.

In 2006 we started working systematically to improve our environmental performance, investing in equipment and processes to reduce our waste and manage our environmental performance. As part of the process we have formed several "Lean Green Teams" of employees to attack waste across our processes. We have just completed our 2007 audit and the exit rate for volume of material we send to landfill has been reduced by more than 70% on a monthly basis from our starting performance.

We will aim for further reductions in future. We have accomplished this by segregating all our waste streams to increase the amount of recycling of paper and board; plastics and metals used by the business. Additionally the business is now well served with recycling bins for office and plastics positioned in offices and across the factory floor.

We have trained personnel to think about their actions in relation to the environment and to question the use of excessive materials across the whole supply chain. As well as the successful implementation of ISO14001, FSC and PEFC accreditiations we are proud to be featured on the PPE (Print Paper and the Environment) website run by buyers from Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth that contains a lot of useful help and advice on print and the environment, (http://www.ppe.uk.net/pages/print/printfinderlist.php)
